Thankful Thursday - Healthy Check Up

Ladybug had her 12 month check up today. She has never had any sick visits, the only time we're at the dr's is for check ups. Sometimes I worry that she's sick and I'm just too oblivious to notice. She's never had more than the sniffles.

At 12 months, she is 30 1/2 inches tall and weighs 33 lbs 12.5 oz. Yes, you read that correctly. She's been off the growth charts since her 4 month check up.

At her 6 month check up, the doctor said "she's just a healthy, breastfed baby. No worries." At her 9 month check up, he seemed a little more concerned about her being off the charts, even saying that "we'll have to keep an eye on this."

For the past month, I've been keeping a food journal of every thing she's eaten and how many times a day she nurses. That's some serious discipline that I cannot even apply to my own self. She nurses 4-6 times a day. She eats a good combination of fruits, veggies, whole grains, and protein.

Today I showed the food journal to the dr and he said that it looks good. I'm not feeding her junk. He showed very little concern over her weight today. He said that body fat from breast milk is different than other types of body fat.

So I'm very relieved. She's on track for all her developmental milestones. She's healthy. She can sign about 8 signs now, and she loves to pick up objects for me to name/sign for her. She cruises on all the furniture and can even stand for 15-20 seconds on her own. She has 3 teeth, the third one broke through on Memorial Day.

Our Ladybug is a wonderful, beautiful healthy woddler (baby-toddler). So many things to be thankful for. And today I'm also thankful that her weight isn't a big deal. In today's society, there is so much emphasis placed on weight. My desire is that we can teach her healthy habits that will stay with her for a lifetime.

Thanks for letting me ramble a bit today. For more thankful hearts, please visit Iris.

Praise God is right for a good check up!!

To make you feel better my son Jordan weighted 36lbs at one year!! (Now he was born weighing 10lbs!)

I breast fed him totally until he turned 12 months, NO FOOD at all!

He was my longest to breast fed, completely. My others ate food at 6 months. Funny cause they were all in the low 20's at 12 months!!

She is just beautiful, and her diet sounds great. She's got some great milk!! What can you say?

Hope you have a blessed day♥

She looks healthy. JR was pretty chubby while he was breastfeeding. At 8 months, I was unable to do so any longer and we stopped. He lost some of that breastmilk fat and was just fine.

OK, I scrolled down to WW to see Ladybug and she is soooo cute!! I know this doesn't apply later in life but I would rather see a baby with little love handles than a one that's too skinny. Weight is usually a sign of good health. And breast fed babies do gain more weight. That's a good thing. Once she starts getting more mobile (walking, running, etc), she'll burn it off (as will you trying to keep up with her!).

So glad the doctor is not giving you too hard of a time. You sound like you are doing an excellent job!! I'm impressed with 8 signs. Dylan doesn't even have that many yet!

I'm with Robyn...I cannot stand to see skinny babies. It is upsetting. She'll lose that milk fat when she quits nursing. You're a good Mommy!

How true this is about their weight. Good for you! Enjoy her, they grow so fast. I know you know that. My oldest is graduating Saturday and I still haven't been able to grasp the fact. Hugs!

I am assuming Ladybug recently had her 1st birthday. We just celebrated my daughter's first birthday 2 weeks ago. What a blessing and joy it was, as I am sure you felt the same. What a blessing that she has been well - no dr visits except well checks. We only had one "sick" visit and felt very blessed as well.

Wow, no sick appts in the first year? Congratulations! Kids come in all different shapes and sizes--Harmony didn't break 30 lbs until she was 3, but she's always been 75%tile height, 25% weight...just the way God made them :)

That is wonderful about her checkup!

Hailey was chubby too until she really started walking. Then she started to really slim down because she was constantly on the move.

I think Ladybug is just beautiful and I always think of Hailey when I see her and miss those little chubs she used to have.

Amen to the weight thing! Don't worry about that at all with your little one. She's too cute, and I love the birthday cake. Where do you find the time for such creativity? I'm lucky to get to Wal-Mart for my cakes!

Thanks for checking in with the blog. This is going to be a busy, crazy summer, so even when I don't comment, I'm surfing around, checking in on everyone.

I was in MB recently and preached at Little River UMC. Great people. Great time of consecration for me.

Congratulations on a healthy baby girl! She's adorable! My kids were born heavy and stayed heavy for YEARS. And (we're Caucasian too)it seems that the charts are meant for smaller people groups. I'm not even kidding. It's just the way it is! My 8 year old and 4 year old are healthy and active and slimmmmmmm now. And just recently we got ANOTHER comment from a babysitter - "is she okay?" about our 2 year old! lol Of course, she's okay! She just has a cute (rather large)protruding tummy. As far as I'm concerned that's the way all babies start out. :) My doctor wasn't at all concerned about my girls and they've all started out over 10lbs at birth. This does nothing for MY weight issues... but that's another whole post. :)
